Nigerian government to pay minimum wage with N6.2 trillion supplementary budget

Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, said on Tuesday that the proposed supplementary budget of N6.2 trillion would be used to pay the minimum wage.

The minister stated this while addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Budget Allocation in Abuja.

He said the funds would be used to stimulate the economy through the implementation of various infrastructure projects.

He said Rp3 trillion was allocated for minimum wages, a draft bill for which President Bola Tinubu would soon send to the National Assembly.

Bagugu said the budget was also intended to provide matching funds for railway projects and other projects in the country.

The minister said: “These include the Port Harcourt Main Bridge which will cross the rivers of Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Katsina, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe and other parts of the country.

“The second project is the Badagry-Tin Can Port, Lekki Port, Lagos-Ibadan Bridge, and Kano-Marada Bridge.”

He assured legislators that the projects listed in the amendments to the 2024 State Budget Bill would not limit the revenue available for the implementation of the 2024 budget.
