Nigerian troops neutralize 9 Boko Haram terrorists and recover 5 million ransom in Borno

Magumeri (Main Reporters) Troops of the 109 Special Forces Battalion Magumeri, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) has successfully neutralized nine Boko Haram terrorists and recovered five million naira (#5 million) in ransom and weapons.

This followed ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the north-east. OPHK troops successfully conducted a combat patrol in response to credible intelligence on the movement of Boko Haram terrorists around Goni Dunari in Magumeri LGA of Borno State on 10 October 2025.

The terrorists, reportedly traveling in 2 vehicles and 24 foot fighters, were observed setting fire to houses and terrorizing locals. Acting quickly, their own troops launched an aggressive combat patrol to intercept the threat.

In a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Operation HADIN KAI North East Joint Task Force, said that as the troops advanced towards the objective, the terrorists attempted to escape towards Damjiyakiri village. The vehicle-borne fighters dispersed to an unknown location, while the foot fighters were chased for a distance of approximately 92 km.

After approximately 4 hours of tactical pursuit, the troops established contact with the fleeing terrorists. A frontal attack was immediately launched and the troops engaged the terrorists with a heavy barrage of fire, neutralizing 5 terrorists, while the remaining 19 scattered in disorder. Some were injured as traces of blood were observed at the scene of the contact.

Items recovered from escrow include:

1 AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), 5 magazines (3 empty, 2 loaded), 31 7.62 mm rounds, 1 Itel cell phone and 1 dagger

Notably, no casualties or losses of equipment were recorded by OPHK troops during the operation.

In a similar development along the Gajiram – Bolori – Mile 40 – Gajiganna axis, motorcycle-mounted troops engaged Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village.

During the firefight, 4 terrorists were neutralized, while others dispersed into the surrounding bush. The troops also successfully rescued Mr Modu Kinnami (55 years old) and Mr Bukar (57 years old), both from Guzamala, along with a sack containing seven hundred and fifty thousand Naira (N750,000).

Preliminary investigations revealed that Boko Haram fighters had demanded a ransom of two million naira (Nira 2,000,000) and 2 new Tecno button phones for the release of their captive brother.

The troops recovered the following items from the terrorists:

Further operations are underway on all fronts to maintain pressure on terrorists and deny them freedom of movement.
