Nigerians are divided on who is the worst Senate Speaker between Akpabio and Lawan

An online debate is currently raging over who should be crowned the worst Nigerian Senate President between the incumbent Godswill Akpabio and his predecessor, Ahmed Lawan.

Since Wednesday, social media users have had mixed opinions about the debate, with some favouring Lawan while others have singled out Akpabio as the worst person to ever lead the country’s federal legislature.

Those who voted for Lawan said his tenure was one of the worst after he openly declared that any request made by then President Muhammadu Buhari would be passed immediately. And during his tenure in the Upper House, that trend never changed.

In Akpabio’s case, commentators say that although he has only been in office for a year, his tenure has been marred by so many controversies and there is expectation of more controversies in the future.

A user with the account @AbbaM_Abiyos threw out the first challenge with this post:

β€œAkpabio remains the worst Senate President in Nigeria’s historyπŸ’”” “

Then came a lot of comments:

β€œAkpabio and Lawal share the points for the worst SP in history. They are also level on goals scored and goals conceded. However, Akpabio still has a game in hand.

β€œAhmed Lawan had full freedom during the Buhari administration. It was a tradition that no one stood in Buhari’s way. Those who stood in his way were all removed (Dino and others). Unfortunately it seems the north is trying not to give Tinubu the same freedom. The south is not allowing them.

β€œAkpabio will pay for his deception one way or another. He might even pay for it this time. The universe will never forget or forgive someone who is openly evil, especially towards poor helpless people.”

β€œAkpabio’s tenure has been difficult to pass significant legislation, with many bills languishing. The lack of an effective legislative process is glaring. His administration lacks transparency & accountability, and this shows that he is more concerned with personal gain than serving the public interest.

β€œAkpabio is a threat to Nigerian democracy. I have never seen a political puppet like him.”
