Nigeria’s Table Tennis Referee, Jimoh Makaila Akin, has been officially selected as the only African referee to officiate in table tennis at the World University Games (Universiade) scheduled for July 2025 in Germany.
The announcement, made by the *Sports Federation of the International University (FISU) in early June 2025, recognized Akin’s outstanding commitment, technical experience and long -standing contributions to the game.
His selection is put between a select group of elite referees from around the world that will preside over one of the most prestigious sports events in the world.
Jimoh Mukaila Akin, who has pocketed the IU BBP (International Referee, Blue Badge Program), has built an impressive reputation over the years within the global table of table tennis.
As an international certificate referee from Blue Badge, the most arbitration status in sports, Akin has officiated in numerous international competitions, consistently demonstrating professionalism, equity and command of the rules.
His trip from local tournaments in the state of Ogun to the global stage is a testimony of discipline, perseverance and a deep love for sport. Akin’s rise reflects not only personal excellence but also the growing impact of Nigerian officials in the international sports field.
