ALLEGED FRAUD: Court orders arrest of NIMC manager

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has rejected misleading reports regarding a breach of its database.

The Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, made the clarification in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the data of Nigerians was not compromised and considered it as innuendo.

The spokesperson stressed that the commission does not allow any website or entity to sell or misuse National Identification Numbers (NIN), and other sensitive information of citizens.

The statement read: “The following websites: idfinder.com.ng; Inspect. Ng/sign in, championtech.com.ng, trustyonline.com, and anyverify.com are data harvesters that are not authorized by NIMC to access or manage sensitive data.

“NIMC urges the public to ignore any claims or services offered by these sites and should not provide their data as they are potentially fraudulent and the data provided by the public on these sites is collected and stored to build the data services they provide illegally. ”

Adegoke noted that NIMC has adopted proactive measures to safeguard the national database against cyber threats and provide a secure, world-class and fully evidenced database.
