Nimet Workers Shelve Strike After Keyamo Intervention

Flight operations will be fully continued at the State Airport after workers of the Nigerian Meteorology Agency (NIMET) suspend their strikes.

The suspension of strikes follows the intervention of the Minister of Airlines and Development of Aerospace, Festus Keyamo.

Special advisors about the media and communication to the Minister of Aerospace and Development of Aerospace, Tunde Moshood, confirmed the suspension of strikes to journalists on Thursday in Abuja.

He said the workers suspend the strike until May 13, while waiting for the results of the minister’s intervention on the raised problem.

At the meeting with the Minister was the leadership of the National Union – National Union of Air Transportation Employees (NUATE) and the Nigerian Aviation Professional Association (ANAP).

Speaking after the meeting, Secretary General Nurate, Camelarad Aba Ocheme, said that the union decided to suspend the ongoing strike as a recognition of the Minister’s sincere intervention.

He added that the trade union would wait for the progress of the actions that must be taken by the Minister.

Also, the National President Anap, Alale Adedayo, said that as a sign of respect for the Minister, the union decided to “while canceling the strike” while the resolution process was taking place.

The union starts strikes for some unresolved complaints related to poor working conditions, including salary relativity with other airlines. And non-implementation of the 2019 consequence adjustment to the national minimum wage (affecting at least 30 staff who were eliminated).

They also demanded a salary increase of 25 – 35 percent, difficulty 40 percent/strange allowances and annual staff training, among others.
