The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has issued a three -month last -year -old ultimate to all foreigners who reside in the country with expired visas to get out of Nigeria or face rigorous penalties, including a daily fine and a potential ban on the entry of five years.
The directive, which was made public in a declaration signed by the NIS public relations official, Akinsola Akinlabi, on Friday, has an immediate effect and grants a period of grace which ends on August 1, 2025.
The new policy should be fully applied starting from September 2025.
According to the declaration, any foreign citizen who remains in the country beyond their validity of the visa will have to entail a daily sanction of $ 15.
In addition to the fines, the NIS warned of more serious consequences such as a ban up to five years or even the permanent black list from returning to Nigeria.
“A three -month grace period allows foreigners with expired visas to get out of Nigeria without penalty, which end on 1 August 2025”, the declaration states in part.
In a move to simplify immigration procedures, NIS also announced the introduction of compulsory online landing cards for entry visitors and output cards for outgoing travelers.
These digital forms will be accessible through the agency’s official platform and aim to improve borders control and monitoring foreign citizens in the country.
The immigration agency underlined its commitment to guarantee respect for Nigeria’s immigration laws and the maintenance of national security.
He urged the people affected to take advantage of the period of grace to regularize their status or make immediate agreements to leave the country.
This development is part of wider efforts by the federal government to strengthen immigration policies and reduce illegal residence throughout Nigeria.
