NNPP urges opposition parties to join FG in developing Nigeria

Founder of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, on Tuesday urged opposition political parties in Nigeria to join hands with the Federal Government to develop the country.

Aniebonam, who made the call at the NNPP Independence Day commemorative stakeholders meeting in Lagos, called on opposition parties to contribute their quota through worthy submissions and suggestions to take Nigeria to greater heights rather than instigating unverified statements and criticism.

He emphasized that unguarded criticism alone will not lift Nigeria from its challenges.

The NNPP founder called on all parties in Nigeria to provide suggestions that can help Nigeria overcome its challenges.

He said: “It is true, the Federal Government cannot yet be given an excellent performance rating, but there are some areas where they have done well.

“Democracy allows criticism, but it must not turn society against the government.

“Every Nigerian, including political parties, must put the interests of the country before their own interests so that we can develop.

“Divisive comments that smear the President or encourage our youth to engage in violent protests will not help the situation.”

Aniebonam noted that there was so much rot in the system before the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government came to power.

He added: “I listened to the President’s speech and I think there is still hope for Nigeria.

“Every political party aims to take over power in their respective regions. When the time comes for politics, the NNPP will try to convince Nigerians why they should vote for us.

“For now, our main interest is to develop the party, this is especially true after our major dispute with some of the rebels among us who we expelled so that we could move forward.

“We remain united and focused and we are more interested in not only continuing to develop the party, but also providing advice when necessary to help the nation.

“We always support Federal Government policy when necessary and if we think there should be amendments, we also make suggestions.”
