No jailbreaks in Kwara, says the corrective service

The Nigerian corrective service, Kwara State Command, has dispelled the news of a jailbreak in any of its custody structures, describing the complaint as misleading and unfounded.

The public relations official of the Command, CSC Philip Bamigbade, in a declaration issued on Monday, said that the attention of the service was attracted by a report from an online platform that claims that nine prisoners flew from a state custody center.

“It is therefore essential to make this clarification to make the minds of the public,” he said.

Bamigbade explained that the structure in which the alleged jailbreak occurred is a child custody center under the control of the state government of Kwara and not the Nigerian correction service.

He observed that the Borstal training institute of Ilorin, which is the juvenile structure managed by the NCOS, remained safe and peaceful.

“The records of the Borstal Training Institute, Ilorin, as in the period of this version, 20 April 2025, clearly show that all the prisoners are intact and that the structure is peaceful and calm”, added the declaration.

Bamigbade reiterated the commitment of the service to maintain the safe case of legally interned individuals, exhorting the members of the public to verify the relationships relating to safety before circulating them.

“The public is also able to always seek clarifications on public safety issues to avoid being deceived,” he said.
