No plan to transfer ministerial briefing to London – Idris

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, rejected the relationships circulating in traditional and online media, suggesting that the briefing session for ministerial printing was transferred from Abuja to London.

The minister made clarification in his observations of opening to the eighth edition of the briefing session of the ministerial press, held at the National Press Center in Abuja. The session was attended by the Minister of the Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the Minister of Water Resources and Highian Services -Sanitaries, Professor Joseph Utsev; and the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.

“This is your response to the insinuation that the press briefing session is moving abroad. We have our responsibility first for the Nigerian nation and this is why we invite these ministers to come here and contact the Nigerians and those outside this country directly from nothing but the national press center here in Abuja.

“So if you think that the briefing of the ministerial press, for those who are already doing the insinuation that is moved outside of this country, is false. The platform that the federal ministry of information and national orientation is providing, is what is happening here in the country,” he said.

In the same way, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who was falsely reported that he was among the ministers scheduled to reveal the results of President Tinubu during a Briefing Print in London, said the position of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stating that the relationship is false.

Idris used the opportunity to praise the performance of the economy, detecting a marked improvement reflected in the gradual decline of the inflation rate of securities as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics.

“Today, I am pleased to announce by encouraging the news of the National Bureau of Statistics, which published the consumer price index (CPI) yesterday for April 2025. At 1.86% in April.

“This did not happen by chance. The president’s focused interventions are clearly repaying. The benefits of the reform, although gradual, are real and measurable,” he said.

He declared that one of the main inflation drivers – food prices – was put under control through the significant interventions of President Tinubu, leading to a considerable reduction in the cost of food.

“One of the Key Indicators of relelf is the food inflation rate. While food prices remain an important Concern for Many Nigerians, The Year-on-Year Food Inflation Rate eased to 21.26% in April. On a month-on-month basis, IT Slowed to 2.06%, Down from 2.18% in March. Positive Movement Has Largely Been Driven by Price Reductions in Stapple Itms Such As Maiize Flour, Wheat Grain, Yam Flour, Okro, Soya Fagioli, Rice and Fagioli.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we recognize that we are not yet where we want to be. But these last figures give us every reason to be confident. They show that difficult decisions are starting to bear fruit. And with the inflation aione, we expect to see corresponding improvements in the purchasing power of consumers and in living conditions,” he said.

Idris has assured that the Tinubu administration will support the momentum of economic improvement giving priority to policies centered on people aimed at providing relief, restoring economic stability and promote shared prosperity for all Nigerians.

The minister said that Nigeria is turning a corner and has urged the media to continue spreading these positive developments in a responsible and constructive way, underlining that the government remains responsible for the people of Nigeria.
