The British number three Cameron Norrie has undergone an exit in the first round at the Open in Barcelona while preparing for the start of the open of France this month.
Norrie, now classified 88 in the world rankings and which came through the qualifications in Barcelona, was beaten 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 6-3 from the 27th level Karen Khachanov of Russia.
The former Wimbledon Norrie semi-finalist, 29, saved a set set to win the first set on a tie and led 4-3 with a break in the second.
But Khachanov has returned to progress in two hours and 18 minutes and will face Jaume Munar of Spain in the next round.
Previously, Carlos Alcaraz had been forced to work hard to beat the loser Ethan Quinn to reach the last 16.
The world number two was a breakdown in the second set against Quinn, in 126th place in the world, before fighting to win 6-2 7-6 (8-6).

After saving five pause points and breaking Quinn twice in the opening set, Alcaraz was driven much stronger by the 21 -year -old American in the second.
The players exchanged breaks on three occasions and Alcaraz, 21 years old, had to save a set point in the tie before finally conquering.

“I made some mistakes, I found it difficult to keep my level, but I am happy to have solved the problems that arrived in the second set and to end up winning in two sets,” said Alcaraz in Tve.
Last week Alcaraz, who won the clay at Monte Carlo Masters, is building himself at the Open of France where he aims to defend his title in Roland Garros.
Previously, the Barcelona champion Casper Ruud has sailed in the last 16 with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Daniel Elahi Galan della Colombia.
Norwegian World Number 10 Rudd, who did not win a tournament this season, hit 25 winners and did not face a set point.

The second classified of last year Stefanos Tsitsipas, the world number 16, beat Reilly Opelka 6-2 6-2.
