Nigeria’s 2023 Under-20 wildcard was in England this week, set to finalise his move to the two-time European champions after a successful trial.
However, transfer talks, which initially looked promising, have now collapsed due to what have been described as complex negotiations and unrealistic demands from Rangers.
Sources close to the deal have revealed that Rangers attempted to include several strict clauses in the contract, which ultimately led to Nottingham Forest pulling out of the deal.
Despite meetings held on Thursday, August 15, with the aim of breaking the deadlock, no resolution was achieved.
With the summer transfer window closing in just two weeks, Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to other potential signings to bolster their academy. The club were keen to add Ishaka to their ranks as they see him as a major promise for the future.
For Ishaka, the failure of the deal is a major setback. The young winger had prioritised a move to City Ground over an offer from an Austrian club, as he saw the Premier League as the ideal platform to showcase his talent.
Now, with his future at Rangers in uncertainty, Ishaka faces a tough few weeks. His contract with the Scottish club is in its final year and Rangers are reportedly open to selling him if their valuation is met.
Following the failed transfer, both Ishaka and Nottingham Forest could re-examine the situation in future transfer windows, depending on the player’s performance and the club’s needs.
“The deal fell through due to clauses that were simply too unrealistic. Both clubs have to consider what is best for the player, but in this case an agreement could not be reached,” said a source close to the negotiations.
