The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has honored two pending artists from the 2024/25 season with cash prizes of ₦ 2 million each.

The Nasarawa United Anas Yusuf striker, who scored 18 goals to finish as a top scorer of the League, received the prize together with Daniel Ogunmodede, head of the coach of Remo Stars, who led his team to a historic first NPFL title. Remo Stars has conquered the championship with 71 points, becoming the first private property club in the Southwest since 2000 to lift the League trophy.

Speaking during the award ceremony, the president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, represented by the general secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, praised the board of directors of the NPFL for his progress.

“The League is improving the week after week. Every day, I do not receive less than 20 invitations from clubs abroad. Instead of chastising our league, we support and gather around it because the growth is obvious. The NFF fully supports what the NPFL Council is doing,” said Sanusi.

The president of the NPFL Otunba Gbenga Elegbelleye reiterated the League’s commitment to lift standard despite the challenges.

“We continue to circumvent the teething problems that could interrupt the correct execution of the League. In the last three years, we have been able to start and finish the season as expected. This consistency has built confidence from the private sector, which is now willing to work with us. Our dream is to increase the quality and standard of the NPFL, in the end by increasing revenue for clubs and organizers,” said Elegbeye.

The recipient of the Anas Yusuf prize expressed gratitude for recognition, describing it as a motivation to aim higher.

“I am happy to be recognized by the NPFL. This award motivates me to push stronger, and I hope to overcome my mark of the last season, it is hoped that it will secrete more than 20 goals,” he said.
