NSCDC parades 13 alleged Abuja vandals

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded 13 suspected vandals arrested at various locations in Abuja and also recovered some stolen items worth N5 million.

The force said the success was the result of intensive surveillance and patrolling as well as reporting, adding that intelligence personnel working with the Department of National Critical Infrastructure and Assets had combed various areas of the country’s capital.

The NSCDC FCT Commander, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, speaking to newsmen on Monday, said his command last week conducted a training for the intelligence department, where they were taught modern intelligence gathering techniques and tasked to be proactive in ridding the FCT of vandals who have damaged national assets and infrastructure.

He said: “I am pleased to inform you that today. We have 13 suspects arrested in different parts of the FCT within the FCT between Saturday 7th September 2024 and the early hours of Monday 9th September 2024 and the following persons were arrested:

They were caught holding laterite and were seen hiding from our patrolling men, which was very suspicious. Having laterite in their hands at such an unnatural hour is an indication that they had dug something from somewhere and were taking cover when they spotted the command men.”

He said that among the objects recovered were: armored cables, motorcycles, shovels, excavators, wrenches, saws, machetes, pieces of iron bars, Indian hemp, hydraulic pumps, billboards, hoes, knives, among others.

Odumosu warned criminally inclined persons “residing in the FCT to do good to themselves and refrain from criminal acts or relocate from Abuja as we will leave no stone unturned to ferret them out and ensure they are brought to justice.”
