NSCDC recovers two bodies from Jigawa pond

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Jigawa State has recovered the bodies of two men from a pond in Birninkudu Local Government Area of ​​the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Badaruddeen Tijjani, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday morning in Dutse, the state capital.

Tijjani said the deceased, identified as Abubakar Alhaji, 20, and Abubakar Abdullahi, 25, drowned while crossing a pond on their way to the market in Waza village.

Tijani said: β€œThe unfortunate incident occurred on Monday, at around 11.00 WIB.

β€œNSCDC Divisional Officer, Birninkudu, CSC Muhammad Garba, confirmed that the unit received a distress call from some members of the public at about 11.30am.

β€œOur troops were deployed to the area and immediately contacted the divisional disaster management officers to carry out a rescue mission.

β€œThanks to the help of the community, the team managed to evacuate the two victims after about 48 minutes of search and rescue.

β€œWe have handed over the bodies to their families and they have been buried in accordance with Islamic law.”

The NSCDC Commander in the state, Muhammad Danjuma, expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims and appealed to parents to look after their children especially during the rainy season as ponds and rivers have overflowed.
