The Union Nigeria di Petroleum and Natural Gas Worldrs (Nupeng) described the former president of the Labor Nigeria Congress (NLC), Senator Adams Oshiomhole, such as “Judas Iscariota of Nigerian trade unionism”.
The union declared it a non -grateful person among oil and gas workers throughout the country.
In a statement jointly signed by the president of Nupeng, his partner Williams Akporeha, and the secretary general, his partner Afolabi Olawale, on Monday, the union accused Oshiomhole of having betrayed the ideals of the worker movement he once supported.
According to Nupeng, the former Labor leader has aligned with anti-work policies that have inflicted difficulties not told to the Nigerians, in particular through his recent comments that condemn the action of strike by the Petroleum and the Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (Pengassan).
The Union described the observations of oshiomhole as “an assault restorative to the fundamental rights of Nigerian workers and a serious distortion of the laws on consolidated work”, noting that they were inconvenient of a former NLC president who should defend the rights of workers rather than “support the corporate oppression”.
“We witness with total disappointment of a former Labor leader now transformed into a vocal supporter for the corporate oppression, which makes an active campaign against the rights that once supported”, reads the note.
“His attempts to rationalize the victimization of workers for the exercise of their fundamental association rights and a peaceful action are not only nauseating, but represent a false declaration of the conventions of the Nigerian labor law and the international work organization (ILO).”
Nupeng also accused the senator of “betraying the cause of the oppressed Nigerian workers”, describing his position as “the praise of an apostate, drunk by the opium of power and supplied in betraying the cause of the working class”.
The Union recalled that Oshiomhole, during a recent interview, admitted that he did not have full knowledge of the issues relating to the Pengassan strike, but “he still chose to be chosen to oppose workers”, based on not verified statements.
“At 73 years old, the senator, in the most indistinct character, chosen brazenly to oppose the workers, based exclusively on untreated statements – a position that is both reckless and deeply reprovable,” said Nupeng.

The Union criticized the suggestion of Oshiomhole of a moratorium on the Union, describing it as “an absurd and archaic proposal” which has no basis in modern practices of democratic work.
“Contrary to the statements of the senator, an employer does not have the right to interfere with the freedom of association of an employee; this right lies exclusively with the worker”, continued the declaration.
“The laws on Nigerian work explicitly protect the right of a worker not to belong to a union, requesting only a formal written notice of retreat.
“Therefore, neither the employer nor his apogetes play any legitimate role in this process.”
Nupeng also expressed dismayed for the fact that a man who was once part of the Government Council of the ILO and his committee for the application of the standards could “demonstrate such a monumental ignorance of unionism”.
“It is shocking that a man who once sat on the global stage that defends the rights of workers now threatens them openly,” said the union.
“The unit shown by the members of Pengassan and the solidarity that continue to receive from other unions nationally and internationally, are the twin pillars on which the worker movement stands”.
Consequently, Nupeng declared Senator Oshiomhole not grateful in the ranks of the oil workers and the gas for what he described as his “non -distinct denunciation” of the Pengassan strike on the “unjustifiable bag of 800 engineers to exercise their right to the union”.
“The practical effect of this declaration”, added the declaration, “is that from now on Nupeng will not participate or present the legitimacy in any event with Senator Oshiomhole. The NLC, the TUC and other organizations of progressive civil society should take note.”
The Union argued that Oshiomhole’s comments were equivalent to “a dangerous toxin designed to weaken the determination of the working class and strengthen the enemy of the class”.
He reaffirmed his solidarity with Pengassan and the 800 workers dismissed, undertaking to use all the legal and industrial tools available to guarantee justice.
“Adams oshiomhole on the Pengassan strike qualifies him as the Judas Iscarota of Nigerian unionism,” said Nupeng said.
“What a monumental betrayal of the cause of the working class! We recommend to Senator Oshiomhole to withdraw from the comment on the issues of the work, since it has irreparably lost the moral law and the legitimacy before Nigerian workers, in particular those in the oil and gas sector.”
