Nurses to start warning strikes for unresolved demands

‘The National Association of Nurses and Midwives Nigeria (NANNM) will begin a seven -day strike on July 29 with the failure of the federal government to overcome its demands.

Nannm previously issued a 15 -day ultimatum to the federal government for the failure to fulfill its demands.

The nurses demanded the submission of an approved service scheme in 2016, the implementation of the National Industry Court (NIC) assessment January 27, 2012, a review of the professional allowance for nurses and midwives, and the work of nursing personnel and the provision of adequate health facility equipment, among others.

The Chairperson of the Association in the Federal Capital Region (FCT), Medan Jama, told reporters on Monday that members in all primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions throughout the country had been mobilized to join the strike.

He said: “We will start a seven -day commemoration attack starting at midnight on July 29. After the strike, if the federal government still does not respond to us, we will then decide the next action.

“All government -owned hospitals throughout the country will be affected. The federal government has refused to improve this sector by handling our demands.”
