NWC: Dan Orbih accuses PDP of defying court order, demands immediate retraction of statement announcing his suspension

Chief Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman for the South-South Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) of violating a Federal High Court order by suspending him.

In a letter to the Acting National President, Orbih, through his lawyers, demanded the immediate and unconditional retraction of the press release announcing his suspension and all related actions.

Orbih, who was elected under the party’s charter, claims his suspension is part of a smear campaign by disgruntled party members, including the executive committee of Ward 4, Etsako Central Local Government, led by Paulinus Ebode.

Orbih filed a suit (Case No. FHC/ABJ/CS/601/2023) in the Federal High Court in Abuja, which resulted in an interim injunction on May 10, 2023, restraining the PDP from suspending him. This order, which was served on all interested parties, including the PDP National Secretariat, was extended to May 28, 2023.

Despite the court order, the NWC suspended Orbih on July 10, 2023. In response, Orbih’s legal team demanded the immediate retraction of the NWC’s press release regarding his suspension and the dissolution of the six-man committee led by Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja that was formed to investigate him.

Orbih warned that failure to comply with these demands would result in legal action, including contempt of court proceedings against NWC members and the disciplinary committee.
