NWFL Annates Ikenne as a guest for the 2025 Premiership Super Six Tourney
Abuja (Reporter Core) The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) officially announced Ikenne, in the State of Ogun, as a host city for the first time for the first time the host city for the Six Team region in the South West region.
The title playoff that defines the season should take place from Thursday 8 May to Sunday 17 May 2025, at the Remo Stars stadium, the homeland of Remo Stars Ladies.
Speaking of the selection, the president of the NWFL, Mrs. Nkechi Obi, said: “On behalf of the Council and the management of the NWFL, I congratulate the Ikenne and Ogun State for being selected to host the Super Six NWFL Premiership of this year.
This is a significant opportunity to further stimulate the awakening of women’s football in the state – remembered with logic as a guest of the inaugural final of the Female Africa Nations Cup in 1998 – and to raise the profile of the women’s game at national level.
“Last year we hosted the competition in Yenagoa, in the south of South, and now we are excited to take it to IKenne in the south -ovest, in line with our agenda Womenfootballising to spread female elite football in every region of Nigeria.”
This marks the first time that IKENE will host the NWFL Premiership playoffs and only comes two years after Remo Stars Ladies has secured their historical promotion to the Topflight in the same location during the NWFL championship of 2023.
According to a circular sent to the participating clubs, the 2025 Super Six will be played in a round-rock format, with all six teams playing five games each. The teams will be expected to arrive on Thursday 8 May, with the draw of the tournament and the pre-match meeting scheduled for Friday 9 May.
So far, five clubs have booked their place in the tournament: Rivers Angels, Nasarawa Amazons, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens and Remo Stars Ladies. The sixth and last slot will be determined after the decisive clash Matchweek 14 between Robo Queens and Naija Rates on Wednesday 30 April 2025.
The NWFL Premiership has produced several samples in the last four editions – Rivers Angels (2021), Bayelsa Queens (2022), Delta Queens (2023) and Edo Queens (2024) – placing the stage for another exciting battle for the title.
According to a declaration by the media director of NWFL, Samuel Ahmadu, winner of the NWFL Premiership Super Six 2025, will continue to represent Nigeria at the Wafu-B Qualifiers for a place in the women’s Champions League of the CAF of 2025 and, finally, the inaugural championship of the women’s club 2026.
