NYCN announces the plan to convert the Idps fields to productivity centers

In Abuja, a city known for political posture than for political innovation, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) is trying a silent reinvention.

The Council spoke it on July 14, during its annual retreat of national leadership, a three -day gathering of youth, politicians and actors of civil society, aimed at “repositioning” the NYCN for national relevance.

Blueprint reports that although these retreats are common and often ceremonial, this year’s edition has reported a more bold intent.

Speaking to the event, Solomon I love, the president of the NYCNC, used the opportunity to reveal a political change with symbolic and practical shades: the internal displaced people of Nigeria (IDP), said, should no longer be seen as victims of conflicts and circumstances, but as potential “internal productivity” knots.

“We no longer refer to them as displaced,” said I was Ado.

“They will become productivity centers. Each young Nigerian, regardless of status, has a role to play in the construction of the nation,” he added.

The linguistic and legislative refueling in this phase is typical of recent efforts by the NYCNC to remain relevant in a field crowded with platforms focused on youth.

Once seen as a gas pipeline for national leadership, in recent years the advice has been watched in the Factionalism and the institutional drift. I love, a combative but pragmatic figure, is trying to reverse this.

Held under the theme “repositioning NYCNCN for the national impact and the development led by young people”, the withdrawal brought together zonal and state coordinators, members of the national executive council (NEC) and representatives of government ministries and donor organizations.

He also offered the possibility of reaffirming the role of Nycn as a broker between the state and the vast demographic of Nigeria’s youth, estimated at over 70 million.

The support of political establishment was evident. A message from the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, delivered by Proxy, hit a conciliatory note:

“The Nigerian Senate is firmly with young people. We are ready to walk with you – not behind or in advance, but shoulder on the shoulder. Under the agenda of the renewed hope of President Bola Tinubu, young people should not only be listened to – they must be involved”.

This language reflects the wider strategy of the government: projecting inclusiveness without necessarily giving in structural power. Participation in young people in governance remains more symbolic than systemic; The decision -making process in practice is still an older men’s game.

However, the nycn below I ado was active. In the last year, he has launched initiatives ranging from digital literacy campaigns to seminars on peace construction. The current leadership has also tried to restore connections with federal institutions and donor partners.

The withdrawal of this week includes sessions on the governance reform, performance metrics and institutional responsibility: the terms often implemented, less often implemented. Yet the mood among the delegates was considerably optimistic. The advice, long fired as a relic of a previous era, is trying to adapt. The fact that it is successful will depend less on the rhetoric of retreats and more on the grit of the reform and the will of the political elite of Nigeria to share real power with its youth majority.
