NYSC provides medical services to 300 residents in Zaria community

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has provided free medical services to no fewer than 300 residents of Chikaji community in Sabon Gari, Zaria LGA of Kaduna State.

The medical services provided included, among others, screening for malaria, typhoid, deworming, ulcer, diabetes and administration of medicines to the beneficiaries.

Speaking at the awareness activity held at Government Girls Secondary School, Chikaji, Sabon Gari, the Kaduna State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Hassan Taura, said the awareness activity was part of the programme’s Health Outreach to Rural Dwellers (HIRD) initiative.

Taura, represented by Haruna Samaila, the programme’s Community Development Service Officer in Kaduna, said HIRD aims to provide quality health services to rural communities across the country.

According to him, the program is a quarterly initiative aimed at providing medical services to rural residents who cannot afford the cost of health care.

He further said that the programme aims to promote the NYSC’s mandate of integration, cohesion and national unity.

“NYSC is committed to improving the health and well-being of rural residents and this outreach programme is a testament to that commitment.

“Our corps members, who are healthcare professionals, have worked tirelessly to provide quality healthcare services to the community.

“We understand that access to healthcare is a major challenge in rural areas, which is why we are bringing services to people’s doorsteps.

“Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their geographic location, has access to quality healthcare.

“The response from the community has been overwhelming and we are grateful for the support.

“We will continue to work with stakeholders to ensure our services reach those who need them most,” Taura said.

He said the corps members not only provide medical services but also educate the community on healthy practices, disease prevention and management.

“We believe that health education is essential to empower individuals and communities to take control of their health.

“We are proud to have a positive impact on the lives of rural residents and will continue to do so through our HIRD program.

“We are committed to leaving a lasting legacy in the communities where we operate,” said the NYSC coordinator

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Sabon Gari LGA Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Usman, and Chikaji Village Head, Mr. Shuaibu Muhammad, expressed gratitude to NYSC for the medical assistance.

Usman was represented by Chikaji Ward Councilor Malam Babangida Abubakar.

The two said the initiative saved residents a lot of money on medical expenses and gave them the opportunity to access quality healthcare services.

They commended the NYSC for the medical assistance programme, adding that it brought relief to the community and demonstrated the NYSC’s commitment to the welfare of rural dwellers.

Speaking on behalf of Chikaji Gidan Zumunchi Community Forum, which donated some of the medicines for the initiative, Muhammad Abdullahi said the initiative was a demonstration of NYSC’s commitment to promoting community health and well-being.
