Obi’s claims about unsafeing baseless political drama – APC

Congress of all Progressive (APC) in the state of Lagos has rejected the statement credited to the presidential candidate of the Labor Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, about the challenges of the country’s security.

Obi, in a post in his official X grip on Monday, said Nigeria has now become a murder field.

He claimed that more than 10,000 people had been killed by Boko Haram terrorists, bandits and other criminal gangs in the last two years, based on reports released by Amnesty International.

But in a quick reaction, APC spokesman in Lagos, Seye Oladejo, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said there was evidence that the government of the Tinubu Bola President had made significant progress in securing Nigeria.

He said: “APC really refused and condemned the accusation by Mr. Peter Obi that Nigeria is now a murder field with more than 10,000 deaths under Tinubu’s supervision.

“This sensationalist claim is not only baseless, they are embarrassing distortion of reality made in a bad faith to score political points.

“Under the new hope agenda of the President of Tinubu Bola, the Nigerian armed forces have provided extraordinary success, dismantling terror infrastructure and restoring stability to the previously threatened community.”

“Hard data (not hype), the Ministry of Defense’s Midterm Report (August 2023 – April 2025) revealed that 9,415 terrorists were neutralized, more than 3,159 suspects were arrested, while 5,449 hostages were rescued.

“Data from a summary of two years of defense headquarters shows that 6,260 terrorists were killed, 14,138 terrorists and criminals arrested, while 5,365 civilians were saved.”

He said the data showed that stolen crude oil worth N83 billion was found during that period.

The spokesman added: “In military operations in all zones, in the northeast (Hadin Kai operation), no less than 1,246 terrorists were killed, 2,467 were arrested, 1,920 civilians were saved.

“In northwest (Yamma’s Fasan Operation), the data shows that 1,374 bandits were killed, 2,160 were handed over or captured, while 3,288 hostages were saved.

“This is not a statistics; they are saved lives, the community is secured, and terrorists are demolished.

“Recently, military air strikes in Katsina freed 76 hostages, including children, some were kidnapped during the mosque attack which claimed at least 50 lives.

“A child, tragic, died during the rescue, describing the dangers and courage involved.

“In addition, air strikes remove 35 militants in the same region.

“In Borno, precision air strikes killed 35 militants, restoring critical land communication and stabilizing the area.

“Operations for a week in Borno earlier this year neutralized 76 extremists, arrested 72 suspects and saved eight hostages.

“This is a real success and can be verified, unlike excessive sensationalism offered by Mr. Obi.

“The Nigerian armed forces, under this government, not only stand tall, but they also attack aggressively, save lives and secure our nation.

“Lagos APC stands strongly behind the leadership of President Tinubu and our military heroes at the forefront.

“We invite Obi and others to recognize the progress made or at risk of lagging in unfounded political drama.”
