Ogun dep. Gov urges Islamic societies to embrace social media for Dawah

He says that attention should be the strengthening of Muslims, not just conversions

Ogun State Vice Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, he urged Islamic societies to intensify the efforts in the transmission of fundamental values and ISLAM rules to younger generations through modern communication channels, in particular social media.

Salako-Oyedele accused while receiving members of the Alasalatu Society of Nigeria and West Africa (Asonwa) led by his Khaleefah and Missionary, Khaleefah Akorede Abdulfatai, during a courtesy visit in his office in Oke-Mosan, Abakuta.

He stressed that the Islamic propagation (Dawah), which in the past has been carried out through physical awareness from city to city, should now be taken online to meet contemporary realities.

“In the 1930s and 1940s, Dawah was done from one city to another through Yorubaland and Ilorin. But in the 21st century, social media made things easier. Most of the young people spend their time online.

“If you are not on Instagram, you are on Facebook; if not on Facebook, you are on Tiktok. This is the way to capture the next generation,” said the deputy governor.

Salako-Oyedele observed that Islam should not be left to preachers alone, underlining that leaders and followers must actively promote faith. He explained that while Islamic societies train more spiritual leaders, it is necessary to pay equal attention to preserve and expand the congregation.

“As Muslim faithful, our first duty in Dawah does not mean converting people but ensuring that Muslims do not move away from religion,” he added.

As he decorated the deputy governor as the patron of the company, the great patron of Asonwa and former military administrator of the states of Bauchi and Sokoto, captain Rasheed Adisa Raji (RTD), praised his commitment for Islam and the enhancement of women. He described it as “religious, kind, accommodating and a worthy ambassador of Islam”.

Likewise, the Asonwa missionary, Khaleefah Abdulfatai, praised the constant support of Salako-Oyedele to the growth of Islam, in particular his encouragement to women, praying that Allah grants his guide and his strength to do more.
