In an alarming discovery, the state government of Ogun has allocated a total of ₦ 3.77.148,951.50 in five years for three ministries that do not currently exist, a Times investigation of the platform revealed.
According to a detailed analysis of the state budget documents accessible through the OpenStates portal, between 2021 and 2025, the non -existent ministry of regional integration, the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Energy have received substantial allocations.
The failure shows that the Ministry of Regional Integration has been assigned ₦ 334,633,551.94, while the Ministry of Youth received ₦ 695.534.393.52 and the Ministry of Energy had ₦ 2,746,981,006.04 budgets for the last two years of the period.
The report discovers significant inconsistencies in allocation over time.
The Ministry of Regional Integration, for example, received ₦ 70,726,600.29 in 2021, which increased to ₦ 98,105,761.52 in 2022, before going slightly to ₦ 88,105,761.52 in 2023.
In 2024, the assignment increased with ₦ 38.082,847.41 for regional integration, ₦ 262,654,337.37 for young people and ₦ 598.395,489.58 for energy.
By 2025, budget allocations increased, with ₦ 39.582,581.20 for regional integration, ₦ 432,880,056.15 for young people and a budget ₦ 2,148,585,516.46 for energy.
Despite these recurring allocations, investigations show that none of these ministries appears in the current administrative structure of the state of Ogun.
Alarmingly, the government has yet to offer an explanation for repeated budget allocations to ministries who have no tangible presence or operational function in the state.
Further complicated issues is the fact that the data relating to the expense of these assigned funds remain wrapped in secrecy.
The state government of Ogun was unable to load or disseminate the financial registers that describe in detail how the funds assigned were spent during the period in question, raising serious concerns about transparency and responsibility.
This inability to explain the budget allocations and the lack of corresponding government structures has aroused indignation among residents and supporters of transparency.
Critics ask for an immediate survey on how public funds are managed, above all given the apparent bad management or bad direction of millions of naira intended for non -existent entities.
