The Ogun state government has suspended two Ilugun High School Principals without time limits in Elega, Abeokuta, for the death of a student allegedly related to the school.
Commissioner of State for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, revealed this at a press conference on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
He reacted to viral videos, where students damaged the nature of the school.
Arigbabu said the suspension of the principal, Ny. Olukoga Alaba and Ny. Ladipo Olabisi, each representing junior and senior schools, is because of their involvement in the incident.
He added that the junior school principal was reportedly involved in collecting illegal costs, which caused protests by students.
Arigbabu said: “In the next protest, security agents are invited to calm nerves, which then cause close range.

“We are all aware of the poor incident that occurred at Ilugun High School (Junior), Elega. I stood before you tonight to confirm that, unfortunately, the incident occurred at school.
“First, let me, on behalf of the state government, expressed our deepest condolences to the parents and the deceased’s family. We felt their pain, and our prayers were with them at this difficult time.
“However, our initial investigation has revealed a very disturbing twist; young men who lost their lives cannot be confirmed as bona fide school students.
“He was identified by three different names: Babalola Ayomide, Salako Jimoh, and Afolabi Babalola.
“However, none of these names that emerged in our official state education database, the Ogsera platform, which authenticated all school registration. This shows the possibility of illegal registration.”
