Ojukwu asks for protection of children from abuse, exploitation

Abuja (basic reporter) while Nigeria joined the rest of the world on Wednesday to celebrate the international day of innocent children victims of aggression, the executive secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Tony Ojukwu (San) asked for a collective action to guarantee the security and well -being of all children in Nigeria.

Dr. Ojukwu in a declaration to mark the day underlined the need for the interested parties to work together to face the causes at the root of abuse and exploitation of minors, including poverty, insecurity and lack of access to education.

He said, every June 4th is dedicated to recognizing the pain suffered by children all over the world who are victims of physical, mental and emotional abuses. In Nigeria, the day has a significant importance due to the country’s struggle with abuse of minors, exploitation and violence.

According to dr. Ojukwu, “millions of Nigerian children face emotional, physical, sexual and mental abuses, with many displaced people due to conflicts and made vulnerable to exploitation. The North East region was seriously affected by the insurrection of Boko Haram, leading to a significant increase in the violations of children’s rights. Domestic policy in the south -est has robbed many rights of Boko Haram.

Chief Human Rights Officer of the country expressed deep concern for the difficult situation of children in the fields of internal displaced people (IDP), who are often forced to ask for survival, exposing them to further exploits and abuses. He highlighted the psychological impact of these experiences on children who influence their development and future perspectives.

Despite these challenges, Ojukwu has noticed that Nigeria has made great strides in the protection of children’s rights. He mentioned the school feeding program, the safe school initiative and the information management system on the protection of minors (Cpims) as examples of efforts to provide a safe and favorable learning environment for children, as well as trace and respond to minors protection problems

The head of the NHRC urged the national assembly to accelerate the action on the passage of legislation on national policy for security, security and schools without violence. He stressed that this policy would provide a picture to ensure that schools are safe and safe environments in which children can learn and thrive without fear of violence or abuse.

Dr. Ojukwu also invited the government to strengthen the implementation of the law on minors and other relevant laws to guarantee the safety and well -being of all children. This, he said, includes the supply of adequate support for IDP fields, ensuring access to quality education and health care and facing the causes of the root of poverty and insurgent that lead to the exploitation of children.

A declaration by the company director and external connections, Fatimah Agwai Mohammed said that the NHRC scribe underlined the need for collective action by the parties concerned to protect the rights and dignity of all children, guaranteeing their well -being and security.

According to him, “working together, will create a society in which children are appreciated, respected and protected by all forms of violence and abuse”.

Basic journalists report that Ojukwu asked for a concerted effort to face the problem of Almajiri’s children in the country, whose right to education and protection from abuse and exploitation has been jeopardized in the country.
