Ojukwu condemns the brutality of the young body member in Anambra
… says his serious violation of human dignity
Abuja (basic reporter) Executive secretary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Dr. Tony Ojukwu “San” has strongly condemned the watchful brutality of a member of the youth body, Mr. Jennifer Edema Elohor in the state of Anambra. Adopt that the actions of the vigilante in a disturbing viral video showing the agents of the group of Vigilante Agunechemba who physically attacks a member of the body of young people, is a serious violation of human dignity.

According to the declaration, Dr. Ojukwu while reacting to the video described the accident as a serious violation of human dignity and a clear violation of the provisions of the Nigeria’s Anti-Torture Act, 2017, which expressly prohibits and criminals torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading or punishment in all circumstances.
He noticed with concern that the acts of brutality, in particular against women, are becoming an alarming tendency that must not be allowed to take root in society.
“It is very disturbing that a group established to protect lives and properties can go around to inhumanize innocent citizens. This inhuman and degrading treatment is unacceptable, illegal and should be condemned in all branches,” he said.
The head of the NHRC said that the commission’s investigation revealed that the accident occurred in July in Oba, the state of Anambra and that the authors had attempted to make sure it was swept under the carpet until the video was leaked.
He said that although the survivor has moved, the commission is making frenetic efforts to reach it to make sure it receives adequate compensation. He also begged the police inspector to provide protection for youth and his family to encourage Mrs. Elohor to present himself to facilitate the police pursuit of the case.
He complained that the question of vigilantes that was to provide protection for innocent citizens is assuming another dimension since the commission office in the State is addressing different violation issues ranging from contamination of children to forced disappearance.
The head of the NHRC has further invited the Governor of the State of Anambra, Prof. Charles Soludo, to ensure that the authors of these atrocious acts are promptly pursued in accordance with the anti-power law. Saying, responsibility is essential to discourage future violations and strengthen the rule of law.
While urging citizens to report cases of human rights violations to the Commission, the head of the NHRC has reiterated the Commission’s commitment to continue to follow the case to ensure that justice is delivered to Mrs. Jennifer Edema Elohor and others whose case the Commission is managing “.
He also reiterated that the NHRC will continue to work with authority and interested parties to ensure the full implementation of the Avanti-Torture Act, 2017 and the protection of the rights and dignity of all the Nigerians.
