Court confirms: Okpebholo not disqualified on Monday – PDP false reports condemned

SUBJECT: FALSE REPORTS OF DISQUALIFICATION OF SENATOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO

The attention of the APC New Media Directorate has been drawn to malicious and false reports spread by the PDP, regarding the disqualification of our candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, from the Edo State governorship election. We unequivocally condemn this deliberate act of misinformation, which is nothing more than a desperate attempt by the PDP to deceive the public and divert attention from its impending defeat.

PDP’s claims of disqualification of Senator Okpebholo due to allegations of forgery and age falsification are completely FALSE. As confirmed by the Federal Capital Territory Magistrates’ Court, no ruling has been made in the matter and the case is still under investigation. The court made clear that the story being spread is misleading and an affront to the legal process.

“For purposes of clarity, a trial court has no jurisdiction over election matters.” Election disputes, particularly those involving the qualification and disqualification of candidates, fall within the jurisdiction of higher courts, such as the Federal High Court or election petition tribunals. Any attempt to suggest that a magistrate’s court can rule on such matters is not only misleading, but also demonstrates a lack of understanding of the law.

We urge the good people of Edo State to ignore this falsehood and remain focused on the coming elections. This is a known diversionary tactic by the PDP to create confusion and discourage voters. It is important to note that spreading false information is punishable by law and the authors of this false news will be held accountable.

Senator Monday Okpebholo remains a legitimate candidate in the Edo State governorship election and the APC is strong and united, ready to deliver progress and prosperity to the people of Edo State.

We encourage all eligible voters to come out en masse on election day to cast their vote for the APC and ensure that the future of Edo State is secured under a leadership committed to development, integrity and transparency.

Signed,
Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah
Director, APC New Media Directorate
