Olubadan Mangeggi’s coronation program of Friday Adoration – Muric

The concern for Muslim rights (Muric) has raised strong objections to the program of events for the incorational of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adventu Ladoja, describing it as an attempt to deprive the Muslims of their right to the cult of Friday.

The coronation ceremony, scheduled for Friday 26 September 2025, was criticized by the Islamic rights group for the planning of the activities that collide with the weekly prayers of Jumu’Ah.

In a declaration signed by its executive director, prof. Isiaq Akinintola, Muric said he had found the omission of Friday prayer in the “repulsive, provocative, insensitive and unacceptable” coronation hours.

“Although the programs were lined up for the first four days, we find the total alienation of the Friday jumu’ah prayer from the repulsive Friday program. This program stranges the Muslim prayer of Friday,” said Akinintola.

He urged the Olubadan coronation committee to urgently review his plans in order to respect the religious sensitivity of Muslims in the state of Oyo and throughout the country.

The lawyer of Islamic rights also observed that the historical event would attract Muslim leaders from the inside and outside Nigeria, warning that leaving the prayer of Friday unrecognized could send the wrong signal.

“Guests from afar and close, including Muslim leaders, are expected on this monumental occasion. They should not go away with the impression that Friday prayer is not recognized by the government of the State of Oyo,” added Akinintola.

Muric invited the planning committee to make changes that would allow Muslims to observe their prayers without obstacles, underlining that any program of this greatness should welcome the cultural and religious diversity of Ibadanland.
