Once again, a former police officer failed to appear in court for the trial of age forgery

Five former senior police officers accused of falsification of failed ages appeared in the Federal Capital High Court (FCT) for their indictments on Thursday.

This is the third time former police officers have failed to appear in court to be tried.

The defendants consisted of one Assistant of the Police Inspector General (AIG), two police commissioners, one representative of the Police Commissioner (DCP), and one Assistant of Police Commissioner (ACP).

They are Aig Idowu Owohunwa, CP Benneth Igweh, CP Ukachi Opara, DCP Obo Ukam Obo, and ACP Simon Lough.

Kuintet was charged with the accusation of 14-age counterfeiting by the Police Inspector General (IGP).

In the last seat of the court, Judge Halilu Yusuf ordered IGP to do everything in his power to produce the defendant to be tried.

This followed the submission by the prosecution advisor, Rimamsomte Yehezkiel, who expressed disappointment over the non-appearance of the officers despite being served with the accusation.

When the case was called, the officers were not in court.

Yehezkiel told the court that the five officers had been served with accusations as required by the law and that they were expected to be in court on their indictments.

He said: “My lord, this is the third time they will be absent. Their advice, Goddy Uche (San), must produce it on the next postponed date.”

Responding to the legal counsel for the defendants, JT Aondo (San), told the court that his client had not been served with the accusation.

“This problem rests on the principle of Esprit de Corps, S and former IGP, Mike Okiro, is looking for this problem to see whether it can be resolved internally,” he said.

He told the court that he had an initial objection.

Responding to, Yehezkiel told the court that if the defendants were not served, then how did they give direction to the legal advisor?

After listening to both parties, the judge told legal advisers to produce his clients in court so that they accept their requests.

He then postponed this problem until November 17 for the indictment.
