Onyemaechi Injury Risks Missing Super Eagles WC Qualifier

Bruno Onyemaechi has become the latest addition to the growing list of Super Eagles players uncertain about their participation in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe this month.

Onyemaechi missed Boavista’s 2-0 league defeat to Sporting Lisbon last weekend due to a muscle issue.

The defender picked the muscle injury during training with his club, and it unclear if he’ll recover in time for the doubleheader qualifiers.

Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, Samuel Chukwueze, and Zaidu Sanusi will miss the games due to injury.

Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina have recovered from their respective injury, but Nottingham Forest might stop them from traveling for the games.

Onyemeachi featured in their last three games against Saudi Arabia, Mozambique in last month’s friendlies, and their final 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in Uyo.

He has started games frequently for his club, playing seven of their nine league games this season.
