Former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, said on Saturday that he will not stand for any elected position in the 2027 general elections.
Ortom made the clarification in a statement signed by his Media Advisor/Consultant, Terver Akase, in Makurdi.
There are reports on social media that Ortom has declared his intention to contest for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.
He said: “I have no intention whatsoever of running in any election in 2027. I have said this clearly, openly and repeatedly.
“I hope that the clearly stated position does not require translation or creative reinterpretation,” he said.

The former governor said he was committed to democratic ideals, strengthening the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and providing statesmanlike guidance and not seeking elective office in 2027.
He urged the public to treat the report as a fabrication.’
