11 people killed, 52 houses burnt in Nasarawa communal crisis

At least 11 people have been confirmed dead and more than 50 houses burnt down in Friday’s communal crisis in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

Spokesperson for the state police command, Ramhan Nansel, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday in Lafia.

He said the incident occurred on Friday morning when suspected thugs carried out a retaliation attack for the alleged murder of their two brothers.

“In the attack, 11 people were killed, while around 52 houses were burned in the two communities,” the spokesman said.

Nansel stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, led a team to carry out an immediate assessment of the affected communities to ascertain the extent of the damage and ensure normalcy returns.

He said CP expressed deep condolences for this tragic incident and sympathized with the families of the deceased victims and the community.
