Oshiomhole rallies Esan people to embrace true son, Senator Monday Okpebholo, as Labour Party defects to APC
In a moving speech, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole implored the Esan community to reject the PDP’s “outsider” candidate, Asue Ighodalo, and instead embrace Senator Monday Okpebholo, a true son of the Esan soil. Oshiomhole highlighted Okpebholo’s deep roots in Esan, his understanding of their struggles and his decades-long commitment to their welfare.
Contrasting Okpebholo with Ighodalo, Oshiomhole criticized the latter as an “emergency Esan man” who:
– Genuine ties to the land of Esan are missing
– He can’t speak the local language
– Avoid sleeping in the land of Esan
– Appears only when seeking votes, disappearing when most needed
Oshiomhole also questioned Ighodalo’s contribution to Esan land and Edo State, citing his roles in Nigerian Breweries and Sterling Bank. “What has he done for you? What has he done for Esan land? Nothing!”
The rally reached a climax when Okpoji’s Labour Party leaders announced their defection to the APC, praising Okpebholo’s dedication to Esan land. “Okpebholo’s generosity and track record speaks for itself,” the Labour leader commented, signalling their support for his leadership.
As the crowd erupted in applause, it was clear that Oshiomhole’s message had resonated with the people of Esan land. With members of the Labour Party now supporting the APC, the stage is set for a significant political contest that could reshape the future of Edo State.
