Jubilation over the completion of Igbogbo Stadium in Ikorodu

Football is about to reach another level in Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos State, as the Igbogbo Stadium is close to completion, Sports247 reports.

The stadium which will be a new addition to the number of stadiums in the state as football teams in Ikorodu and its environs will heave a sigh of relief as the completion of the stadium is imminent.

A visit to the Igbogbo Stadium in Ikorodu by our reporter on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, saw workers at work on site, putting finishing touches to the seating area while the synthetic turf was being laid and only the goal post is yet to be erected in the main bowl, although the post was lying flat on the turf in the goal area.

The track has already been laid and the stadium looks nice.

The changing rooms and stands are already finished, the seats and the interior fittings of the changing room area are still to be fixed.

One of the supervisors on site confirmed that the progress of the work on the stadium is going as planned as they will meet the delivery date of January 6, 2024, when asked when the work on the stadium will be completed.

“We are working within the scheduled delivery time, but more than 90% of the work is already done. I cannot say if it will be ready this year, but we will definitely not exceed the delivery date of January 6, 2024,” said one of the supervisors who requested anonymity.

Construction of the 800-seat capacity stadium is set to commence in 2022. It is one of five stadiums under construction and reconstruction by Lagos State to boost youth development and rapid sporting growth in the state, as works are underway at Ifako Stadium, Agege Stadium, Gbagada Stadium and Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere.

We learn that the works will be completed on the entire stadium before the end of January as Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu is set to commission it in February 2024.

Ikorodu United FC once played in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, while Ikorodu City FC won the Lagos State FA and gained promotion to the NPFL last season, but will play their home game on Lagos Island at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, pending the completion of the Igbogbo facility.
