The Nigerian football icon of Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala, has announced that it will retire from international football after the women’s Africa nations in progress 2024/25 (Wafcon), marking the end of an extraordinary era in African women’s football.
The thirty -year -old announced on his official Facebook page, describing the decision as a “legendary exit” and a necessary step to open the way to emerging talents to shine on the global scene.
“At 30, with six prizes for the best player of African women, I will bow to start a new chapter after Wafcon 2024/25,” he wrote.
“Thanks for your unwavering support. I am forever grateful for love and sacrifices shared with me during this trip.”
Oshoala’s sparkling career is adorned with a record of titles as a player of the year of Caf (2014, 2017, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023), making it the most decorated player in the history of African women’s football. Her relentless push, skill with Goal and Global Impact score have made it a model for countless young athletes across the continent.
He opened the score for Nigeria at Wafcon in progress when he scored against Tunisia after only four minutes in the opening match of Group B.
Product of Nigerian basic football, Oshoala entered the global scene with a breakout performance at the FIFA U-20 2014 women’s Cup, where both the gold boot and the golden ball won. Since then, he has played prominently in several cups in the senior world and Olympic games, which represent Nigeria with distinction.
