Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has responded to being overlooked by the Nigerian representative in the Ballon d’Or voting process.
The aftermath of the Ballon d’Or revealed an unexpected choice from the Nigerian vote, that was cast for eventual winner, Lionel Messi over Osimhen.
Despite the snub, the 24 year-old made history by securing the 8th position in the rankings, marking the first time a Nigerian player has broken into the top ten.
“For me everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that’s what I believe, but no one can deny the effort that I put in last season or downplay the kind of season I had last season.
“At the end of the day, I came out 8th. Even it it was 10th or 11th, I would still be proud of it.
“I’ve worked so hard to get the recognition that I deserve, so it changes nothing, they can vote for whoever they like. It’s all love from my side.
“I try not to let something like that get to me, if not, I’ll forget about those who love and support my wholeheartedly,” He said on Obione podcast.
Victor Osimhen scored 26 goals as Napoli won the Italian Serie A title last season.
The forward also amassed 10 goals as Nigeria qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
