A former deputy governor in Osun state, Benedict Alabi, has stated his intention to oppose the 2026 Governor Election in the state.
Alabi, who stated his intention to journalists on Wednesday in Osogbo, said he would take part in the election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
Alabi served as Deputy Governor during the Adegboyega Oyetola government from 2018 to 2022.
He said: “I postponed my declaration to fight in the election to find out whether Oyetola will participate in the election.

“Oyetola’s intention not to fight in the election to open the way for my declaration to fight.”
Former Deputy Governor said he had the capacity and structure to win party tickets, as well as the 8 August 2026 election.
“I asked Oyetola whether he had a candidate who was preferred in the election, and he said no, and I believed him.
“Oyebamiji’s ball, one of the APC governor candidates, might be close to Oyetola because he is a former Commissioner of Finance, but that does not mean he is his choice candidate.
“There is no truth in the conversation that Oyetola has a preferred candidate. This is only a street conversation,” Alabi added.
