Over 3,000 members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), on Thursday, protested against the registration of the council by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Addressing the press during the protest at the CAC headquarters, former Secretary General of the NYCN, Barrister Abubakar Suleiman, said as the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the Registrar General of the CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji (SAN), is sabotaging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda by delisting the NYCN from the CAC without wait for the court’s judgement.
He said: “Over 3,000 Nigerian youths are gathered here today, because of impunity, lawlessness and the attitude of the Registrar General of the CAC. Nigeria is a federation. We do not live in a country of anomie. We live in a country where the law works. The National Youth Council of Nigeria, the highest youth council, has its organization registered with the CAC, Corporate and Affairs Commission.
“Just recently, two days ago, there was a publication by the CAC, Corporate and Fair Commission, that they would withdraw the certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, as well as set up a committee to manage the affairs of the council. We have a case pending in the court of appeal against CAC. CAC is a party to a case pending in the court of appeal.
“We had won a case in the federal high courts. So they infer that the CAC has no power to deregister the Youth Council of Nigeria. But unfortunately, the Registrar General went and deregistered the Youth Council of Nigeria from the CAC portal and issued a publication, as well as set up a committee to manage the affairs of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
“We are here to say no. Enough with impunity. Enough with this. The RG must go. It is obvious that the RG of the CAC is working against the ambition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Renewed Hope Agenda that we are all clamoring for, and we are all supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The RG, who is an employee of the presidency, is working against President Tinubu. We are here today to tell Nigerians, to tell the world that enough is enough. Enough with impunity.
Enough with the illegality. It is time Nigerian youths raise their voices and tell President Tinubu that RG must go.
“We’re not just doing here today. We’re not just stopping here. This is the first day of our disruption. For 30 days, this protest will continue.
“Until President Tinubu sacks RG. We have mobilized our youths in 36 states plus FCT, 774 local governments, to do the same protest in every state where the CAC office is located. We will not vacate any CAC office until RG is sacked.
“We know that there is a lot of impunity in this office. Many employees were employed secretly, without following due process. We are not ready to say it.
The RG himself has a case pending before the Court of Appeal. And the same RG is here again to illegitimately delist the National Council of Nigeria, while there is a case pending in the Court of Appeal. And we won a case in the Federal High Court and got the ruling.
“So on what basis are you deregistering NYCN? RG is a lawyer, a senior lawyer of Nigeria. I am a member of the Bar Association. I wonder how someone so hierarchical of the profession, a noble profession, a gentleman of the court will do it. Let us say no to this impunity.”
