The Oyo State Government on Saturday called for the implementation of preventive measures to prevent a potential cholera outbreak in the state.
The state’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, made the call during a visit to a private hospital in Ibadan where two people suspected of suffering from cholera were receiving treatment.
He said cholera is a bacterial infection that is spread through eating or drinking food or water contaminated by the feces of an infected person.
He said: “The two suspected cases in Ibadan, which have been traced to private facilities, are male workers at a construction site on the Lekki Peninsula in Lagos State.”

But he assured that there was no reason to worry because the ministry and other partners were in the best condition.
Ajetunmobi said the state government’s response efforts through the ministry were to ensure that the state did not record any fatalities due to the cholera outbreak in Lagos State.
“These response efforts include promotional jingles in English and Yoruba, airing in various media, immediate inauguration of a Cholera Technical Working Group, putting in place an active isolation management center; and the sensitivity of gatekeepers and other established societal structures,” he said.
