Oyo govt condemns vandalism of newly rehabilitated road

The Oyo State Government has expressed anger over the damage done to the newly renovated section of the Olusoji-WCCI road, just days after it was officially reopened to the public.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Ibadan, the state capital, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, Busoye Ogunlade, condemned the incident and vowed to take stern action.

β€œWe received reports of vandalism on the newly repaired road, particularly the unfortunate damage caused by a truck carrying over 60 tonnes of cement,” Ogunlade said.

He further deplored the actions of the truck driver, who fled the scene after the incident, and described it as a cowardly act.

β€œThis body strongly condemns this brutal act of destruction of the first lane of the Olusoji-WCCI road, as a deliberate act of sabotage of a major link that has immense socio-economic benefits to the state and indeed the entire nation,” Ogunlade stated.

According to Ogunlade, immediate steps were taken to repair the damage, with a technical team deployed immediately to assess and repair the affected section of the road. In addition, the facility where the trucks unloaded cement has been closed.

He assured local residents that measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, stating, β€œPerpetrators of such acts will face the full brunt of the law.”

The newly rehabilitated Olusoji-WCCI road, completed last week, is part of the state government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and meet the road transport needs of the community.
