Phinan Ozonweke, former Heartland of Owerri defender and now head coach of Edel FC, Awka, says he is “grateful” to the fans and supporters of the club for their all-out support for the club, Silvernews.com reports.
Ozonweke, also a former Rangers International wing-back, spoke after his team secured a 2-1 victory against Abia Comets in a Nigeria National League match at the Awka City Stadium on Wednesday.
Ifeanyi Aniji scored first for the hosts at the end of the first half, but Abia Comets equalized in the 73rd minute of the match.
The visitors looked on the verge of snatching an equalizer in a pulsating match, but Wasiu Lawal scored the winner in the fifth minute of six minutes of added time.
And a happy coach Ozonweke told Silvernews.com that he remains grateful to the team’s fans for strongly supporting the club even when the odds seem against them.
“Our loyal fans and supporters have always been there for us through thick and thin,” began the dark-skinned electrician.
“They never abandoned us, even if we were losing. I remember the day we lost 3-0 here, they continued to support us until the final whistle.
“Today, once again, you saw what happened. So, I’m always grateful and happy with them. I really appreciate them,” coach Ozonweke said
