Tension has gripped residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that left at least one person dead and others injured on Monday morning.
The state government confirmed the incident, describing it as a disturbing development in a region already facing security concerns.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, the explosion occurred along a road on the outskirts of the community when a vehicle unknowingly hit the device.
“The IED exploded when a vehicle was passing by on Monday morning,” Ajakaye said, noting that the explosion occurred some distance from Woro.
He revealed that a male passenger in the vehicle died instantly, while a woman and her child who were also in the vehicle were affected by the explosion. The woman sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility, while the child managed to escape unharmed.

The incident has sparked widespread fear among residents, many of whom are increasingly concerned for their safety amid growing insecurity in the region.
Confirming the explosion, Special Assistant for Media to the Chair of the Kaiama Regional Government, ZulQharnain Shero Musa, said casualties were recorded, although the exact number was still uncertain.
“This morning there was an explosion around Woro which resulted in casualties, but the exact number of casualties is still unclear,” said Musa.
He added that initial indications suggested the devices may have been planted by suspected insurgents, raising new concerns about the presence of criminal elements in the region.
