“Congratulations to George. I know you will overcome it. I will be waiting for you to go out so we can celebrate.” Bassey said during the transmission.
Reflecting on his first month in office, Bassey described his new role as challenging but rewarding, and used the platform to describe bold plans for multisport development in Akwa Ibom.
“We want to have a state basketball team, a volleyball team, and pay attention to all sports,” he said, affirming his broader vision of inclusion beyond football.
Support of words with action, Bassey announced that:
“Between now and November, each sports association must have a competition.”
He also revealed that the State is working on the launch of its own sports festival, with the base development such as the cornerstone, backed by Governor Umo Eno.
At the next National Sports Festival, Bassey declared:
“I am in a hurry to win medals. I’m in a hurry to develop stars.”
The commissioner added that Akwa Ibom is actively studying models of other states to establish a functional sports academy, which would focus on promoting young talent.
Touching the current descent battle of the AKWA United FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Bassey expressed a cautious optimism, saying that he believes that the club still has an opportunity for fighting with three remaining games.
Meanwhile, Mighty George continues its 100 -hour Marathon Radio Interview program as part of its official Guinness World Record attempt, an effort that has attracted local and national attention.
As the transmission continues, the support of prominent figures such as Paul Bassey adds impulse to George’s historical journey in the waves.
