PDP appoints interim Benue management

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 17-member interim committee to run its affairs in Benue State for the next 90 days.

The Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, who inaugurated the committee in Abuja, urged the committee to reconcile the aggrieved members and various PDP groups in the state.

He also tasked the committee to hold a credible congress to produce an inclusive party executive in the state.

The Chairman said: β€œYou have been carefully selected from various zones to represent all interests in Benue so that we do not leave out any stakeholder or section of Benue.

β€œYour job is to present an inclusive executive during this ongoing congress so that everyone will feel welcome.”

Damagum advised the committee members not to be easily influenced by sentiment and to prioritize party interests over personal interests.

He urged party members in Benue to work with the committee to resolve all the crises that led to the PDP losing the elections in the state.

“Use this opportunity, if possible, to make peace with yourself. This is the only way to achieve a strong party in the state,” he added.

Previously, the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, said the vacancy caused by the end of the party’s state management term on August 8 required the formation of an executive committee.

He said his party had been holding district congresses in the state before it was stopped by a court order last week from holding local government congresses in six LGAs.
