Edo 2024: PDP’s Campaign Ruins as APC’s Okpebholo Leads the Charge

With just 31 days to go to the Edo State governorship election, the PDP campaign is in disarray. Despite being the ruling party, it has failed to organize campaigns at the senatorial district, local government area and constituency levels. In contrast, the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has been actively campaigning across the state, reaching out to voters and outlining his 5-point agenda for the development of Edo.

INEC is working to ensure free, fair and credible elections, with measures such as PVC collection and fictitious accreditation. Meanwhile, Okpebholo’s campaign continues to gain momentum, with massive support from Edo residents.

PDP candidate Ighodalo is absent from the campaign trail, prioritising foreign travel over engagement with Edo voters. The disarray of his party is evident, with no clear leadership or direction.

Okpebholo’s campaign was one of unity of purpose, focus and massive support. He promised to build quality roads, improve healthcare and provide value-based education. His new buses transport Edo residents free of charge every day, in stark contrast to the PDP administration’s failure to provide new buses for public transport in eight years.

The disarray of the PDP is further highlighted by Ighodalo’s absence from the campaign trail, his failure to recruit powerful figures to challenge the APC leadership, and the exclusion of legally elected delegates from voting in the primaries.
