Opinion: Resignation of Apc and Abdullahi Ganduje

Now confirmed that Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, 75, Chairperson of the Ruling All Progressives (APC) Congress has resigned from his position as party leader. He has a fairly multilevel career as a politician, serving under Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso as Deputy Governor of State Kano, 1999 -2003, and from 2011 to 2015. He is the Governor of Kano State, 2015-2023. In August 2023, Ganduje became the Chairperson of APC, after the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Admu. In 2025, he was also appointed as Chairman of the Federal Nigeria Airport Authority (Faan) by Bola President Ahmed Tinubu. The leadership of political parties is of course, not a traditional feces; Before Ganduje, APC had the Head of Bisi Akande (2013-2014), Head of John Odigie-alone (2014-2018), Camelad Adams Oshiomhole (2018-2020), Mai Mala Buni (2020-2022), Senator Abdullahi Adamu (2022-2023), and Senator Abdullahi (2022-2023), Senator Abdullah (2022-2023), Senator Abdullahi (202-2023), Senator Abdullahi (202-2023), Senator Abdullahi (202-2023), Senator Abdullahi (202-2023), Senator (202-2020), Senator (2020), Senator Abdullahi (2020), acting capacity).

What makes Ganduje shocking, if not surprising, is suddenly. Felix Morka, a party spokesman is in the record saying that Ganduje must be aside because of “urgent and important personal problems”. Peter Obi, a presidential candidate from the Labor Party in the 2023 presidential election has been quoted and he has not denied attribution, said that other political leaders must imitate the example of danguje by learning to resign every time they think their health decreases, and they are medically, physically and mentally inappropriate. There is no record wherever Dr. Ganduje admitted that he was medically inappropriate, or that at the age of 75, he had great health problems. He remained out, his position had been taken by the Deputy Chairperson of the National (North), Ali Bukar Dalori. Ball President Ahmed Tinubu comfortably outside the city on his way to St. Lucia and South America, when he returned dust would settle on the transition in his party, and this was what had pushed speculation about the discharge of Dangeje. Is he stepping on the proverbial knife skin? Is he encouraged? In or outside the city, the most comfortable, can the President claim not to know the resignation of Danguje? We have been told that resignation has been received.

This is not yet a clear demonstration of political losses: here today, leave tomorrow. Ganduje is one of the most sycophantic Tinubu and APC loyalists. He has boasted to anyone who cares about listening that APC and Tinubu’s victory in 2027 are “agreements made”. He also boasted that more opposition governors and parliament members would join APC, and that APC was developing. Now if the agreement discussed by Ganduje about being done, it will no longer be under his supervision, and if the APC expands, he will become an observer of the process. It must be said about him that he has become one of the main loyalists in the Tinubu engine. Recently in the state of Borno, he even refused to mention or recognize Nigerian Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima. I did not share the views revealed that he had been sacrificed for political reasons by Bola President Ahmed Tinubu. I don’t believe that his political career has ended. Upon returning, Ball President Ahmed Tinubu was good in a position to find another task for him. He can be appointed as Federal Minister. He can be appointed as an ambassador in one of the world’s main capital, while other people take over the darkness to become party leaders. Far from the point there is a plan to embarrass Dr. Danguje.

Nevertheless, there are some interesting stories about why he must move. One theory is that he can be examined for corruption, pushing back to the “Gandollar” scandal when he is the Governor of the State of Kano. It is a lie. That will never happen. The second theory is that Ganduje must resign to give a way for Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the new leader of the Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), who might have received Tinubu’s invitation that he must join APC. Kankwaso is a former Ganduje boss. They are now a bitter rival in the politics of the state canoe state. It is assumed to be broadly that APC cannot hold men and their supporters, and that Ganduje might even be out of the party. I don’t think that will happen. Ganduje will be too happy to be given another task, and he will bring the same level of enthusiasm for it as long as he is close to the corridor of power. There is even a possibility that President Tinubu will dangle enough carrots before Kwankwaso and Ganduje and reconcile the two men. He has done it at Rivers State. He might try his luck in the politics of the state canoe state. Of all the permutations, which is definitely not that Dr. Kwankwaso will join APC, and even if he does it, the point will be reiterated that politicians do not have a permanent enemy but President Tinubu is well aware of the opposition of him in the northern part of Nigeria. To win re -elections convincingly in 2027, he will need votes from the north, especially Kano, which is one of the biggest political constituents in North Nigeria. If he has a kankwaso and ganduje in his corner in 2027, he will achieve that goal in a much easier way. In 2023, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso received 58.4% of the votes in the state of Kano, Tinubu ranks second in the state with only 31.50% of the votes.

The point has also been made that maybe President Tinubu seduced Dr. Kwankwaso because he wanted to change his partner in 2027 Tinubu-Shettima tickets have worked quite well so far; It will be the same as an unnecessary disturbance to think of bringing down the vice president who in each score has done himself with loyalty, calmness, and dignity. President Olusegun Obasanjo has a second term of office that is turbulent as President, 2003 – 2007, only because of a similar politics that resulted in the “Bolekaja Political” phenomenon between him and then Vice President Atiku Abubakar. That is the second term divided that does not serve the people of Nigeria well. Loyalists on both sides of the president’s villas each fight. In 2010, when President Umaru Musa Yar’adua served in the office and traveling abroad for treatment, then Goodluck Jonathan Vice President was not permitted to take position as an acting presidentially needed by the 1999 Constitution. The type of crisis that can happen this time, is new to the telegraph when Dr. Ganduje and Deputy Chairperson of APC, Northeast, Mustapha Salihu, failed to support Shettima in the party’s function in Gombe.

Shettima supporters must force this problem. They start shouting Shettima! Shettima !! Shettima !!! in Protest. It is important for President Tinubu not to embarrass his own representatives. He hasn’t done anything to get such treatment. The argument is in the form that APC will need Muslim-Christian tickets in 2027 is a reflection, and will be the same as the act of betrayal. Those who said that Shettima was worthy of being dropped because the governor of his country, Professor Baba Gana Zulum and Senator Ali Nduume also from Borno’s state had been critical of the Tinubu government had to stop the game that doubted insulting the intelligence of others. Shettima should not be crucified for other people’s political choices, or expression. The term both Tinubu must be seen in what Nigerian voters feel about his appearance during his first term of office not based on religious affiliation. Nigerian politicians play ethnicity and religious cards as a kind of sense. The religion of political leaders is not a problem if only they give a good government. Achievements, competencies, and abilities do not wear ethnic or religious clothing, but in the politics of opportunism and fraud that we play in Nigeria, religion and geography are ready extracts.

More importantly, President Tinubu must refuse the temptation to justify the label that some of his critics have been attached to him that he find it difficult to work with a representative, and prefer to be a star in his own drama. As the Governor of the State of Lagos, he works with three different deputies: Ny. Kofo Bucknor -acrele (1999 -2002) Mr. Femi Pedro (2003 -2007) and Alhaji Ganiyu Ogunleye (May 15 -May 2007 -14 days!).). Nigeria is not lagos. Four northern governors, each two from northeast, and northwest, and two main officers in the Thneational Assembly are reported to be eyeing the vice president’s seats and try to advertise themselves as possible substitutes. They must be ignored.

This is indeed a terrible comment about Nigeria’s political sense that almost two years into the Tinubu government, there have been so many obsessions with the 2027 and even 2031 general elections, while the focus must be the best way to serve the people of Nigeria at the national and sub-national level. Nigerian politicians only think about themselves, their future and the benefits they get. This is some why the main political parties are messy. Many politicians rush to join the ruling party not because they believe that it is the best platform to renew the people’s expectations, but because they think it is a forum where their own selfish interest can be realized better. We will soon watch the battle for space and relevance between New Comers to APC and the old Brigade. APC is likely to be overwhelmed by its own success as much as the Democratic Party (PDP) is now overwhelmed by its failure. The opposition party, PDP cannot even hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. The National Work Committee (NWC) is not organized. The party that used to be Nigeria ruled for 16 years was factional; His future remains uncertain. In the 2023 election, there was a Labor Party (LP) that offered many promises, especially for young Nigeria and those who sought alternative options in Nigerian politics, but today, the labor party was not in any way different from the older party they wanted to replace. The party suffers from an identity crisis.

Ahead of the 2027 general election, it has been reported that a total of 110 political associations seek registration as a political party. They include associations such as the Absolute Congress (ABC), the Obidient People’s Party (OPP) about all Nigerians, all gender parties, the Ambassador of the Nigerian Polling Unit, the Pink Political Party, the Village Intelligence Party, the Far Party, the Party of Pressing Effects: Some names are very funny, you will think that some of these thinking politicians are jokes. But the right to seek registration or form a political party is a valid right that is enshrined in section 40 of the 1999 constitution. This process is regulated by law: the 1999 constitution, the Election Law 2022, and the Guidelines and Inec Regulations. Most of those who promote this association know that they have no chance.

The Nigerian political party system really needs reform. We need political parties that speak with the needs of the people and reflect the popular aspirations, not the narrow and selfish ambitions of an individual or the coalition of people who are most looking for special destination vehicles with which they can steal strength. We need political parties that seek to promote the development of our collective heritage. We demand that politicians must be the first and most important citizens, with patriotic hearts, men and women who believe in the possibility of Nigeria, not religious gladiator or ethnicity who do not invest in the common good.
