PDP clarified Peter Obi not in the party, said the fixed focus on candidates who met the requirements for 2027

The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) has distanced itself from speculation that connects the 2023 labor presidential candidate, Peter Obi, with his ticket in 2027, emphasizing that Obi has not yet indicated any steps to rejoin the party.

Speaking on the morning program Arise TV on Wednesday, the Secretary of the PDP National Publicity, Debo Oologunagba, explained that while Obi’s name continued to appear in political discussions, the 2027 party competition would be encouraged by a collection of competent members themselves.

“When you can refer to President Jonathan, President Jonathan is still a member of this party because he has not resigned. And Obi is a presidential candidate in the last election for other political parties. He did not indicate that he joined the party.

PDP spokesman added that the opposition party did not lack of credible competitors, emphasizing that the Nigerians could see their leadership quality throughout the state.

“So, for us, we have, at today’s party, it is very meet the requirements of Nigeria and the governor who performed. And Nigeria can recognize that,” he said.

Oologunagba also chose the Governor of the State of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, for praise, describing it as one of the “poster boys” PDP in terms of performance and ability to mobilize broad support.

This clarification emerged in the midst of debate that developed about the potential of alliances and defeats ahead of the 2027 elections, with the name Obi often mentioned in the same breath as the rearrangement of the opposition.
