PDP revealed that more presidential candidates appeared outside of Jonathan, Obi, Makinde for 2027

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that more and more candidates are secretly positioning themselves for the 2027 party’s presidential ticket, expanding lists outside famous figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labor Party candidate Peter Obi, and Governor of State Oyo Seyi Mowinde.

PDP National Legal Advisor Deputy, Okechukwu Osuoha’s lawyer, told Journalists in Abuja on Sunday that the party was currently in internal negotiations and consultations aimed at identifying the most appropriate flag carriers for future elections.

His statement followed a comment by the leader of the ABBA Moro Senate minority, who had appointed Jonathan, Obi, and Makinde as a pioneer while acknowledging that additional candidates who met the requirements from the South could still enter the race with the development of the discussion.

“The names you mentioned are still speculation. At present, what is most important in the party is negotiations and discussions, with people who try to identify who will be the most credible candidate,” Osuoha said.

He highlighted that even though the public focus remained in the trio, several other candidates from the southern region had held private talks with the main stakeholders to increase their opportunities.

The party’s direct focus, said Osuoha, was to conduct a national convention to elect a new officer responsible for leading the PDP for the next four years. After this, attention will change to narrow the list of presidential candidates in front of the preliminary election.

“During that period we will narrow it to those who will fight. The party will want to do a free and fair primary to maintain transparency and prove that when we talk about democracy, we live with it,” he explained.

Osuoha further clarifies that the PDP zoning policy will affect the candidate’s choice, with the presidency to be categorized to the south.
“Anyone who will participate must come from the southwest, southeast, or south-south,” he said, emphasizing that regional balance and party unity would be a critical consideration.

He underlined that ensuring party stability ahead of the 2027 election remained a top priority: “The main point now is only to hold a national convention and ensure that the party is stable without grudges or crisis.”

In the next week, PDP is expected to increase internal consultation, with the results set to form its election strategy for the 2027 general election.
