The operator of the Nigerian independent system (Niso) states that industrial action within the gas supply chain has led to a reduction in the energy production of over 1,100 MW on September 28th.
According to the direction of Niso in a declaration in Abuja Tuesday, the generation available in the national network fell abruptly from over 4,300 MW in the early hours of September 28, to about 3,200 MW at the lowest point.
“Niso wishes to warn the public of the recent main deficiencies of generation on the national network, caused by industrial actions of the petroleum and natural gas senior staff association of Nigeria (Pengassan) within the gas supply chain.
“These interruptions triggered widespread gas shortcomings, reducing the generation available from over 4,300 MW in the early hours of September 28 to about 3,200 MW at the lowest point”, “he said.
Niso said that development has intensified the pressure on the grid, pushing the emergency measures to stabilize the supply and avoid a blackout at national level.
“To mitigate the crisis, the operator of the system said he increased the generation from the main hydroelectric stations, injecting over 400 MW to cushion the lack of gas plants.
The agency said that it has also implemented loading adjustments in real time, support measures to frequency and scattering selective load to preserve operational safety.
Niso said that he promptly distributed emergency measures to preserve the stability, safety and reliability of the national network. Key interventions that include
“Optimization of hydroelectric energy: strategic enhancements from the main hydroelectric stations, contributing to over 400 MW of additional production to complete the lack of gas plants.
“Generation shipping and load balance: loading adjustments in real time to combine the generation available with the system demand, while preventing a collapse of the system frequency.
“Tension and frequency support: continuous implementation of compensation of reactive power and monitoring of the reserve to safeguard the integrity of the system.
“Management on the side of the application: selective load spreading, applied as a last resource, to avoid a system collapse and guarantee an equitable energy distribution,” he said.
According to Niso, these timely actions have allowed the IT and National (NCC) control center to minimize the impact of the lack of gas induced by work, support operational safety and maintain the supply to critical loads, thus denying a national blackout at national level.
The operator of the system, however, reiterated its commitment to the proactive management of the network, the operational excellence and the application of the best practices of the class to ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply for the nation “.
Freedomonline reports that Pengassan has attributed his last action to the alleged unilateral action of the refinery of dance in the dismissal of over 800 staff members for adherence to the association.
The National Executive Council (NEC) of Pengassan has held an emergency meeting of all its branches on Saturday and resolved that the members should withdraw all the services starting from 00:01 Monday ..
Freedomonline reports that the Federal Government has made the comparison between the refinery of Dangote and Pengassan.
A meeting chaired by the Minister of Finance and the coordinated minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, underlined two recent developments, including the alleged suspension of the Naira-For-Crude oil agreement by the refinery of dangar and the concerns raised by Pengassan regarding the refinery.
